Molly Gillis earned her MFA in writing & directing at NYU Grad Film. Her work has screened and won awards at Oscar-qualifying festivals including SXSW, Aspen Shortsfest, Palm Springs Shortfest, OutFest, Champs-Élysées Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival, and many others. Her short film PLAISIR was acquired by Searchlight Pictures and earned a Vimeo Staff Pick. Her previous short film entitled NOW YOU KNOW premiered on Short of the Week.

Her film work has received institutional support from the NYU Production Lab, the Spike Lee Production Fund, the Princess Grace Foundation, the Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation, and the Davey Foundation. She also holds a BFA in experimental theater from NYU.

Born in Maryland, based in Brooklyn. She firmly believes if you’re not laughing, you’re crying… and makes personal films with that in mind.
